Painting, stencils, collage, tattoo designs, burning, silkscreen and tyre prints are a just few of the techniques used in the Zaishu Amsterdam project.
Twenty new limited edition Zaishu chairs, each standing as an unparalleled collectable artwork that also functions as furniture, will be exhibited and sold at furniture design store and artspace, Wilhelmina Winkel. This is a rare opportunity to see some of Amsterdam’s progressive talents express themselves individually and collectively and for visitors to purchase a never to be repeated piece of collaborative art.

We met at Winkel Wilhelmina where the first Zaishu Amsterdam exhibition will be held and connected the panels of all the different artists. Each artist will exhibit one complete chair featuring their own work and the remaining 10 chairs are made up of a compilation of each artist. Of the 20 chairs, there will be 10 individual chairs featuring artwork from 5 different artists. It was a complex and difficult task to decide which panels to put together, but we ended up with some fabulous looking chairs!

Preparing our playground

October 18, 2008

Although a little early for a Saturday morning, we got busy preparing our playground for the day’s event, making sure coffee was plentiful and installing Gert’s time machine.

Clearly not much of a problem to load 20 flatpacked Zaishu onto a couple of bikes! We’re off to Weasels atelier to unwrap our canvases and get started on the big painting day.

Destination arrived. We have received 100 Zaishu panels that will be turned into 20 beautiful and unique chairs. They have now completed the first part of their journey.

We had the first meeting with the artists and project team to brainstorm and discuss our ideas for the painting day.
